Facebook News and What it Means for Brands

by Annalea Krebs | July 8th, 2016

Facebook has recently changed its algorithm making it much harder for brands to get their products in front of potential customers. We now see more of what our friends are posting, and less from publishers and news sites… Although this seems like a bad deal for brands, it gives marketers a great opportunity to use their influencer networks.

Power to the People

Facebook has been a great marketing tool since it popped up on the web, but things have recently changed. Facebook announced that they replaced their old Facebook algorithm with something new. We are now seeing more of what our friends are posting and less from publishers and news sites.

For companies who have relied on Facebook to get the word out, this news doesn’t bode well.

As a brand marketer, what do you do next?

  • Don’t give up on Facebook. It’s still the world’s number one platform, with one billion people using it daily. It’s where everyday people can share opinions on brands with friends, fans or followers. To abandon ship altogether just doesn’t make sense.
  • Use your fans to deliver your message. Research shows 92% of consumers trust word-of-mouth and recommendations versus advertising. This is precisely why this approach should be a part of your marketing strategy. Randall Beard, Global Head and Advertiser Solutions, at Nielsen states,

“…consumers around the world continue to see recommendations from friends and online consumer opinions as by far the most credible. As a result, successful brand advertisers will seek ways to better connect with consumers and leverage their goodwill in the form of consumer feedback and experiences.”

  • Be authentic with your communication. According to Facebook, authentic communication is an integral component of our newsfeeds, something no paid ads or celebrity endorsements can provide.

Here at Social Nature, this Facebook news brings a smile. We, too, are behind the people, namely our community of Micro Influencers that are helping brands like you get the social love you deserve!
