Natural Menstrual Cramp Relief

We started Yurika when my husband and I began researching a natural solution for menstrual cramps because I was utterly debilitated every cycle. This often meant missing work or needing to be helped off the floor to a ride or cab home. 

We soon discovered the majority of women have cramps and approximately one in five women of childbearing age experience extreme symptoms: cramps, nausea, diarrhea, and even vomiting and hospitalization. The clinical term is “primary dysmenorrhea” and it encompasses all these symptoms. 

I was popping Ibuprofen like M&Ms and it still didn’t actually eliminate the pain. Out of personal necessity, we began what would end up as a three and a half year journey to find the answer - not relief but the elimination of menstrual cramps.

We also discovered that period pain created a major disadvantage for women in school and the workplace, with lost days and productivity. Helping women level the professional playing field provided further incentive. 

According to a new study published in the British Medical Journal.⁣, “pain, nausea and heavy bleeding is linked to nine days of lost productivity per woman every year.”

Another major motivation was to discover a truly effective natural solution to widely used pharma drugs, specifically NSAIDs and oral contraceptives, both of which carry serious health risks. The FDA recently strengthened existing label warnings that NSAIDs increase the chance of a heart attack or stroke. Harvard Health Publications followed up this announcement stating "NSAID use comes with health risks. Use the lowest dosage possible for the shortest period necessary." 

Once we discovered the botanical compound that worked, we submitted our research (including clinical trials), to Health Canada for a Natural Product Number. Seven months later Yurika was approved for sale as an effective solution for menstrual cramps.
